There’s only one famous woman who had everything plus the most beautiful violet eyes. Set in Italy in 1967, this historical novel is cleverly written as a ‘biography of sorts’ that follows Taylor and Burton during the filming of Boom! while living large on their enormous yacht. Jean, her personal assistant, sees all and wonders how Elizabeth holds everything all together- with Burton’s increased drinking and trying to protect her children from the media. Taylor and Burton’s love affair was one for the ages- yet, with all that fame and fortune, life could be terribly unsettled. With this film NEEDING to be a hit as Taylor is *gasp* 35, she continues the insanity that is her life while searching for a true legacy to leave behind.
Oddly enough, while reading this book- Taylor Swift’s famous song Elizabeth Taylor would run through my head as the lyrics closely mimic the antics weeel through these mediums- a famous song and now a book. Elizabeth Taylor’s appeal and larger-than-life life still pulls people of all ages and walks of life- and her humanitarian efforts and business savvy shouldn’t be overlooked in favor of the riches, the woes, the husbands and the movies.
