the shadow friends-tess gerritsen

published 8/25/26

I’ve been reading Tess Gerritsen’s work since her “debut” in 1996 and was absolutely enamored with Rizzoli and Isles. Here’s the thing about the Martini Club series- it’s witty, it’s got references to every single spy/espionage/CIA/FBI book you’ve ever read. The Shadow Friends- Book 3 sees our retired friends in Purity, MA facing an old foe, The Cold War. Flashbacks to an old mission gone bad with a new mystery and a couple of folks murdered, there’s no one better than the Martini Club to solve these cases- even if they get sucked back into some dangerous situations. Gerritsen writes these characters with grace, smarts, and a knack for showing that retirees still have a lot to offer in the way of wisdom and courage. GenX will love the callbacks (clean plate club, defectors, and double agents) while everyone else will be enthralled by the duty and honor to country that these friends hold fast to.

Thank you to Tess Gerritsen and Thomas & Mercer for allowing me the opportunity to read this ARC on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
