I’m not sure how I lost track of Linwood Barclay- but it was back during the pandemic. Up until then, I devoured every thriller he wrote. Running across Not a Word on NetGalley was a stroke of good luck for me. A murder-suicide that involves the patriarch of the Chartwell family. As a former big pharma scion, there are questions around his untimely death that bother the investigating detective and devastates a family. Reece Chartwell, the youngest son, is the one to find the bodies and at first, he believes it’s his parents but then chaos ensues when his mom calls him on the phone. Who is the mystery woman involved in the death scene? His mom disappears and now there are suspects everywhere as secrets threaten to destroy solving the murder as well as dismantling a family forever. Who, how, what, why are the questions of the day and Barclay leads you astray here and yonder before you get a straight answer. The truth becomes distorted and you’ll never see this ending coming.
Thank you to William Morrow and in the incredible Linwood Barclay for allowing me the generous opportunity to read this ARC on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
