The Wish is a departure for author Heather Morris as it is not related to historical fiction at all, but a book about a terminally ill teenager who wants to have a wish granted-similar to Make a wish. If you’re easily triggered by juvenile illness, I would not recommend this reading.
Morris delves deep into the complexities around having a terminally ill child from a family’s point of view, as well as what goes into creating or granting wishes from a for-profit organization. Jesse, the young heroine, is wise beyond her years and all of her fellow patients/friends are realists as well as normal, hyperactive teenagers.
The Wish will leave you sobbing; but more than that will help restore your faith in life and humanity. And a little kindness is something we could all use these days.
Thank you Harper Perennial for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC on NetGalley in exhange for an honest review.
