I loved the Paris Gown by Christine Wells, so I was already a fan of her writing. The Lost Perfumes of Paris is an in-depth exploration of fragrances and how they are made. Elodie is the daughter of the world-renowned Aurore, who had one of the most renowned noses and was highly skilled at making perfumes before the Second World War. Set aside by her father as a “woman who should marry”, Elodie sets out to win a contest to capture the essence of Paris with the help of Marcelo. Although Marcelo claims he is only helping Elodie, she discovers that he is also deeply passionate about fragrance and what makes them unique. Wells’s research is on full display, with each chapter giving us an insight into the scents that make up perfumes and what sets them apart. Whether or not Elodie and Marcelo win the contest, they discover a mutual respect for each other, and their passions ignite.
