Like legions of other readers, I wait all year long for Daniel Silva’s one book featuring Gabriel Allon: everyone’s favorite spy/art restorer-in his nifty crew of acquaintances that set foot in both worlds.

In this book, we find a green-eyed hero being asked to track down a missing millionaires wife, maybe not the most appropriate job for the former head of the Office but Gabriel takes the task despite Chiara’s warnings. “What could go wrong,” Gabriel asks. “It’s just a kidnapping.”

This kidnapping overlaps Gabriel’s past and forces him to reckon with opponents that have fallen off his radar. He may have to use some of his super sleuth thingy he’s so blessed with along with his wily ways of survival along with assistance from his motley crew of helpers to stay alive. It appears that this time, however, somebody’s backtracked Gabriel, and he may not have a way out.

Silva never misses with his astute attention to detail and overwhelming curiosity about the world in which we live.
