Daughter of Egypt- Marie Benedict

published March 24, 2026

First of all, this was obviously a labor of love by Marie Benedict, and it shows on every single page. This sweeping tale of archeologist Howard Carter and Lady Evelyn Herbert, and her father Earl of Carnarvon who discovered Egyptian Pharoah Tutankhamun’s tomb. She writes the 1920’s and 1440’s BC with ease, narrating both viewpoints of Hatshepsut, the sixth pharaoh of 18th century Egypt, who ruled as a woman and Eve. Both stories are significant and intertwine in a way you didn’t think possible. I always learn so much from Marie Benedict about the remarkable women that she writes. She gives us HERstory every single time.

I can’t thank St. Martin’s Press enough for giving me the chance to read this ARC on NetGalley and provide an honest review.
