It is a bold move to take a beloved classic and reimagine it. Crowther’s take is modernized for a new audience but misses the wit, cleverness and hypocrisy noted by Fitzgerald in his incredible work. Our Gatsby, an influencer, comes off as vapid and shallow without any real backstory. Not enough friction or synergy- and it could’ve been set in a different venue. Perhaps, like the original, it will gain popularity in future years as The Great Gatsby was originally considered a failure. The actual sentence structure and language was distracting.
