I’m late to the Falon Ballard Fanclub but safely initiated with Toe to Toe. WOWZERS- what a story and what a gift that Ms. Ballard has for writing complex dynamics, this time set in the dubious world of professional ballet- where dancers, their bodies and their spirits are often left up to their choreographers, their directors and their competition to survive. Enter Cord, a successful business owner of a men’s sexy dance troupe and a beautiful professional ballerina Allegra, and you have sparks. My kindle nearly melted from the first ‘dance lesson’ that Cord gives to Allegra, in an attempt to help her loosen up for a principal dancers’ part. Taking us inside the competitive worlds of dance, the angst of choosing between careers and love and the OFF-THE-CHARTS spice, Toe to Toe gives us that warm, sneaky feeling while delivering on all the story points created. I won’t miss another Ballard novel and have downloaded the balance to get up to date.
