I misunderstood when I thought Colleen Hoover was retiring- instead of it being clickbait and she was undergoing a significant health scare. Thank goodness she’s alright- because Woman Down is an incredible thriller.
Enter Petra Rose, a successful author, who is suffering a debilitating case of writer’s block following the publication and film adaptation of her most famous book. While she has a great plotline involving a triangle relationship with her fictional characters- she has no real experience with this scenario. She retreats to a lakeside setting where she often goes to finish books.
What happens next is stranger than fiction- where you’ll ask yourself- how far will you go for your craft and your success?
The plot seems to somewhat mimic Hoover’s own struggles with the film adaptation of It Starts With Us, especially amid the ongoing lawsuits. Regardless, the situation provided is a delicious thriller and begs to be a film.
